Early political life

1947

Partition of India; left home in Lahore and moved family to Punjab, India


After partition – concentrated on his land and agriculture and helping local people with their problems


Sarpanch – became Sarpanch in Bilaspur


Became Chairman of the Block Samiti


Director of co-operative Bank


1966

Contested MLA election on Akali ticket against Rarewala (ex CM Punjab). Lost election. Gian Singh Rarewala contested as the Congress candidate


1969

Rarewala joined the Akali party. Beant Singh was therefore not given the Akali ticket and stood as an Independent. Beant Singh won MLA election


Sometime after winning as an Independent candidate Beant Singh changed to Congress Party and altogether was elected as a MLA 4 times


Became Public Works Department (PWD) Minister and Revenue Minister in Darbara Singh Government


1986

Became President of Punjab Pardes Congress


1992

Became Chief Minister of Punjab

1982 – PWD Minister at the Secretariat Building , Chandigarh

1982 – then Public Works Department (PWD) Minister

1982 – with Darbara Singh, then Chief Minister of Punjab

1960s – with Lakhsman Singh Gill – the then Akali Chief Minister of Punjab
